Collaboration Project with Cotswold Collective

It was a real pleasure to be invited to the Cotswold Collective’s ‘The Seasons’ wrap party  at The Wild Beer Cheltenham.

The evening was hosted by Stefanie Calleja-Gera and Justin Golby of Cotswold Collective and was the culmination of a year long project which explored creative design, and editorial photography through a model competition whilst raising awareness about Sustainability in the Fashion Industry.

Justin and Stef first approached me back in July 2015 with an idea that I felt was a great opportunity for our second year students to engage with. Initially working as individuals our students produced concepts for garment designs around the theme of ‘ The Seasons’ and these were presented to the Cotswold Creative at a live critique during which four designs, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter were selected.

The second year cohort then pitched to each other to build teams around each season and worked towards producing a complete outfit with headdress to be worn on location and feature in an editorial piece.

Four models were selected to represent each of the seasons within a competition that ran alongside the Fashion project and as soon as the Fashion students were introduced to their models the teams were able to fit and style the designs to best effect.

Once the outfits were complete our students worked collaboratively with Stef and Justin and their team of make up and hairdressers to realise a series of amazing location shots which can be seen on their website at Cotswold Collective. Below also shows the wonderful videos by Cotswold Collective with special behind the scenes footage and the final images captured for each season –

The wrap party was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the success of the project and meet up with the teams again and of course to find out who would be the winning model and the winning designer.

And the stakes were high with the model receiving a one year contract with BMA Models and the winning designer awarded an internship opportunity with Paul Costello, to work at London Fashion week plus a one to one Q&A advice and guidance session with REIN London.

Following a really uplifting speech from Stef who thanked all of the participants for their hard work and creativity, former model Noella Coursaris Musunka awarded the winning model award to Georgi Meacham, ‘Autumn’.

(I was very proud to) Margaret McDonough ACL Fashion Design awarded the Paul Costello prize and the honour of best design to Jodie Spears for ‘Winter’, who was absolutely thrilled, “I’m super excited for this internship as I will be helping them with London fashion week, which is just a dream come true!!!!”

On behalf of the students and staff I would like to thank the Cotswold Collective for this great opportunity to work on such an interesting and rewarding live brief.
